SOURCE-BASED OCCUPATION GUIDE

Architect

An architect turns ideas for homes, offices, and other structures into drawings and coordinated design decisions. The work includes comparing options, preparing technical information, discussing drawings with clients, and working with engineers or other architects. The O*NET and BLS descriptions below reflect the United States occupational context; they are not Turkish education, licensing, or practice requirements. This guide focuses on activities and work interactions.

Visible and less visible activities

  • 01

Prepares scaled drawings and design presentations that turn an idea for a structure into understandable visual and technical information.

  • 02

Reviews drawings with clients, clarifies needs, and carries decisions into a shared working process with the design team.

  • 03

Connects office planning with observations from construction sites to help assess whether drawings remain aligned with project progress and client objectives.

Preparation and education to investigate

To prepare, practise drawing, measurement, and visual explanation through small projects. Learn to compare options, record why you chose one, ask for feedback, and explain technical information clearly. Education and authorization rules vary by country; the U.S. sources below should not be treated as official Turkish entry requirements.

A small experiment

Using cardboard, paper, and a ruler, design only a single-storey, non-load-bearing room layout. Choose a simple scale, mark doors and windows, then compare two arrangements. Write how each choice affects light, movement, and use. Do not build it, make safety or structural decisions, or treat the sketch as legal advice.

Questions to ask a professional

  1. What information do you gather when evaluating a design option?
  2. How would you turn a client’s feedback on a drawing into a design decision?
  3. How would you check whether a drawing remains aligned with project progress and its intended use?

Explore the day in two different contexts

The schedules below are educational fiction. The source-based overview above is not a real employee interview or validation of these schedules.

Educational demo — a project day in a design studio

In the studio, the architect follows a regular flow from drawing and revision blocks to team comments and a client meeting.

Educational demo — a site-follow-up day between a construction site and office

The architect combines a site walk with office drawing revisions and short decisions across teams; timing flexes with conditions.
